Session 3 Wounded Spirits
2
Many boys today have what author Frank Peretti
calls wounded spirits, a syndrome that attacks
the self-image of young people. Through
bullying, neglect, or abuse, many kids today
become targets. The result is a crisis of
confidence, self-hatred, and sometimes violent
revenge. ???????Frank Peretti ?????????????? -

Psalm 1023-6 For my days have been consumed in
smoke, And my bones have been scorched like a
hearth. My heart has been smitten like grass and
has withered away, Indeed, I forget to eat my
bread. Because of the loudness of my groaning My
bones cling to my flesh. I resemble a pelican of
the wilderness I have become like an owl of the
waste places.

Psalm 1027-9 I lie awake, I have become like a
lonely bird on a housetop. My enemies have
reproached me all day long Those who deride me
have used my name as a curse. For I have eaten
ashes like bread And mingled my drink with
weeping
5
The enormous influence of television and movies
has worsened the problem by overemphasizing body
image, contributing to young peoples feelings of
inadequacy. No one, including boys is immune to
it. ??????????????????????,????????????????,????

Boys want to be powerful and strong. When they
are teased mercilessly, it can lead to the kind
of rage that has surfaced in some school
shootings. To prevent it, parents and other
adults need to step in when boys are bullied or
otherwise mistreated.

Perpetrator Cho Seung-Hui
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The gunman suspected of
carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left
33 people dead was identified Tuesday as an
English major whose creative writing was so
disturbing that he was referred to the school's
counseling service.
"He was a loner, and we're having difficulty
finding information about him," school spokesman
Larry Hincker said.
ABC, citing law enforcement sources, reported
that the note, several pages long, explains Cho's
actions and says, "You caused me to do this."
12
Investigators believe Cho at some point had been
taking medication for depression, the Tribune
reported.
"He was very quiet, always by himself," neighbor
Abdul Shash said. Shash said Cho spent a lot of
his free time playing basketball and would not
respond if someone greeted him. He described the
family as quiet.
Derek O'Dell, his arm in a cast after being shot,
described a shooter who fired away in "eerily
silence" with "no specific target just taking
out anybody he could."
13
Chris Davids, a Virginia Tech senior who
graduated from Westfield High School in
Chantilly, Va., with Cho in 2003, recalled that
the South Korean immigrant almost never opened
his mouth and would ignore attempts to strike up
a conversation. Once, in English class, the
teacher had the students read aloud, and when it
was Cho's turn, he just looked down in silence,
Davids recalled. Finally, after the teacher
threatened him with an F for participation, Cho
started to read in a strange, deep voice that
sounded "like he had something in his mouth,"
Davids said. "As soon as he started reading, the
whole class started laughing and pointing and
saying, Go back to China,'" Davids said.
14
"You had a hundred billion chances and ways to
have avoided today," a snarling Cho says on
video. "But you decided to spill my blood. You
forced me into a corner and gave me only one
option. The decision was yours. Now you have
blood on your hands that will never wash off."
