Military Aspects-2
  • Cover the military battles with maps-also
    emphasize George Rogers Clark and the West, John
    Paul Jones and the Navy, and Privateers.
  • Political Developments-Government was by the
    Second Continental Congress. They appointed the
    commanders, financed the war, declared
    independence, made alliances, and developed the
    Articles of Confederation

  • Shays Rebellion, 1786-debtors revolt put down by
    the MA militia, but pointed out need for a
    stronger government.
  • Accomplishments-1. Land Ordinance of
    1785-provided for the sale of land for not less
    than 1 per acre. 2. NW Ordinance of
    1787-Provided method for statehood for Western
    lands-Pop. 5,000-legislature and Governor.
    60,000-Const. statehood on equality with the
    other states. No slavery

Conclusion
  • By 1786, the experience of the Articles of
    Confederation Government had taught the American
    people that a stronger government was necessary
    if the country was going to survive. A series of
    meetings started to take place which would lead
    to the Constitutional Convention.
