2
What is marbleized paper?
  • Marbling is the art of printing multi-colored
swirled or stone-like patterns on paper or
    fabric.
  • The patterns are formed by first floating the
colors on the surface of a liquid,
  • Then laying the paper or fabric onto the colors
    to absorb them.

What you will need
  • water
  • enough to fill container
  • utensil to scrape chalk
  • plastic knife, popsicle stick
  • anything straight will work
  • white printing paper
  • several sheets in case of mistakes

4
What you will need
  • shallow tray
  • big enough to hold paper
  • sidewalk chalk or chalk pastels
  • whichever is most convenient
  • chalk pastels work the best

5
What to do First!
  • Cover the tables with news paper or plastic
  • Place containers with water in them on table
  • Place white paper, chalk, and scraping utensil
    beside each container

6
Lets Get Started!
  • Pick out two or three of your favorite colors,
or colors you think might look cool together.
  • We will look at some color schemes on the color
wheel to see what effects different colors have
    on each other

7
  • Triadic colors are high-energy colors that are
found by choosing three colors that are separated
by 120 degrees on the color wheel. The primary
    (red, blue, and yellow)
  • complementary color scheme is made of two colors
that are opposite each other on the color wheel.

8
  • Monochromatic colors are all the hues (tints and
    shades) of a single color.
  • Analogous Colors sit next to each other on the
    color wheel.

9
The Process
  • Take the colors that you picked, and your
    scraping utensil.
  • Scrape each color of chalk into the water and
gently swirl the water to mix the colors.
  • Dont swirl too much or the colors will fall to
    the bottom of the water.

10
Finished Product
  • Gently lay your paper on top of the water so that
    it picks up the colors.
  • Do not push it underneath the water.
  • Then slowly pick the paper off the surface and
lay it color side up on the table to dry.
  • Now you should have a marbleized piece of paper
that you can make many paper crafts with.
