The Great Pyramid of Giza
  • The Great Pyramid is located in Egypt witch is
    in Africa. It was built in 2540 B.C.-2560 B.C. It
    was a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian king,
    Kufu. There are many theories regarding how the
    pyramid was built. Most people believe that
    ancient Egyptians moved huge stones and lifted
    them into place on the pyramid. There are three
    chambers inside the pyramid. There was a lower
    room in the bedrock and two upper rooms. The king
    and queen chambers.

The Light House of Alexandria
  • The Light House of Alexandria was built in the
    3rd century B.C. on the island of Pharos in
    Alexandria. People estimated the height between
    383-440 feet. It was destroyed by two earthquakes
    in 14th century A.D. It was completely
    constructed out of large blocks of lightly
    colored stone. It was made of three sections a
    lower square part with a central core, a middle
    octagonal section and a top circular section.

  • The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were built by
    Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BCE. He created the
    Hanging Gardens to please his wife Amytis of
    Media who longed for the trees and plants of her
    homeland Persia. The gardens were destroyed in
    2nd Century BCE by earthquakes.

The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
  • The Statue of Zeus was carved by sculptor Phidias
    around 5th century B.C. in Olympia, Greece. This
    statue is 40 feet tall if. He was carved from
    ivory and then covered with gold plating and was
    placed on a throne of cedar wood, inlaid with
    ivory, gold, ebony and precious stones. In Zeuss
    right hand there is a statue of Nike, the goddess
    of victory, and in his left, a scepter with a
    eagle perched.

Mausoleum of Mausolus at Halicarnassus
  • This structure was built between 353 and 350 BC
    in Bodrum, Turkey. The structure was designed by
    Greek architects Satyrus and Pythius. The total
    height of the building is 135 ft. (45 meters.)

  • The Temple of Artemis was completed around
    seventh century B.C. (in present-day Turkey.)
    Nothing remains of the temple, however there were
    many temples built on its site nearly around the
    Bronze Age. In 800 A.D. the temple was destroyed
    by a flood.

The Colossus of Rhodes
  • The Colossus of Rhodes is a 30 meter high statue
    of the Greek god Helios on the Greek island,
    Rhodes. It was brought to Rhodes by Chares of
    Lindos. It was constructed between 292 and 280
    BC. The statue stood for only 56 years before it
    was destroyed in 226 BC.
