1002 ETHNOMEDICINAL SURVEY OF HOUSEHOLDS
Ethnomedicine refers to the study of traditional
medical practice. According to the World Health
Organization (WHO) ethnomedicine has maintained
its popularity in all regions of the developing
world and its use is rapidly expanding in the
industrialized countries. India has a rich
heritage of traditional systems of medicine
where household remedies do occupy a prime place.
2MATERIAL REQUIRED
A notebook Pen
3Children should be asked to list the remedies
available at their homes for the common
ailments. They may include common spices
condiments flavouring agents and products such
as milk butter-milk ghee curd honey etc.
The ones that can be sampled and preserved can
be maintained in the form of a herbarium.
4The listing would help in recording the medicinal
usage of common remedies available locally.
Also it would prevent the loss of our
indigenous knowledge passed on from generations
since centuries.
