When she looked up a tear was leaking down her
cheek. Its really confusing this year Im too
white to be Latina and Im too Latina to be
whitesome of the Latinos are saying Ive turned
into a Gringa. The teacher asked if I was in the
right class the first day of advanced math and
another student asked if my family was bringing
tacos to the food night but Bolivians dont
really eat tacos people assume Im Mexican they
dont even ask. Marcela had always been in a
special math class one rung above honors. But by
winter she was getting disappointing gradesand
beginning to worry about being moved down a
level.
