Manic Episode
  • Abnormally elevated, expansive, or irritable mood
    that persists for at least a week (or of any
    duration if hospitalization is required)
  • At least 3 manic symptoms (4, if only irritable)
    of significant intensity 
  • Not related to medical disorder or drug use,
    including antidepressant therapy
  • Marked functional impairment necessitates
    hospitalization to prevent harm or has psychotic
    features
  • The symptoms do not meet criteria for a mixed
