Title: What you know, should determine what you do.

1
What you know, should determine what you do.

Traffic Jam
As your driving up I-75 North you notice the
southbound lanes tied up with traffic from an
earlier accident plus there is road construction.
You know that youll be coming back home with 20
min and normally you take I-75 South, what would
you do?
Take it and then be mad
Try to drive in the emergency lane
Weave in and out of traffic and blow my horn
Go home a different way

James 417 Therefore to him that knoweth to do
good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

When did Lot Sin? Ge 1310 And Lot lifted up
his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan,
that it was well watered every where, before the
LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the
garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as
thou comest unto Zoar. Ge 1312 Abram dwelled in
the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities
of the plain, and pitched his tent toward
Sodom. Ge 1412 And they took Lot, Abram's
brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods,
and departed. Gen 1820 And the LORD said,
Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great,
and because their sin is very grievous
5
Lots Problem
  • He knew of Sodoms Reputation
  • He saw it, and thought it was easier than being
    alone
  • He only planned to go so far Just close enough
to go in then come out
  • Lot was called a righteous man (Gen 18)

6
Our Problems
  • We know what is right, and because we do we are
    responsible for it
  • Lot knew the city was bad, but he chose to go
    their and live anyway
  • Our life involves us looking at things we know
and making choices based on that knowledge

Elementary Story
I remember when I liked math, there were addition
and subtraction tables, multiplication and
division flashcards. It was actually kind of fun.
They had these little pictures on the homework
and everything, then it happened, the thing that
would change math in my life forever, Fractions.
Oh, I tried to convert them to decimals but I was
eventually overwhelemed. I could no longer
pretend I didnt know what this math problem was,
now I knew, now I was responsible.

Not just what you aren't supposed to do
It is very easy to look at this lesson and say,
yeah, weve heard it, you know you shouldnt be
doing this or that so dont do it.This verse that
says to him that knows to do good, and doesnt
do it, its sin also applies to choosing not to
do what is right.
9
A car is like a Christian
  • Both need to be worked on constantly (washed,
    waxed, Cared for)
  • Both can be stopped by obstacles in the road
ahead, and also by problems in the car
    (Christian) itself
  • Both have a tendency to ignore warning signs (At
    least the driver of Both)

10
Examples
  • Choosing to do something else every Wednesday,
Sunday instead of going to church
  • Refusing to Witness
  • Ignoring God through the week
  • Replacing Bible Doing with Bible Study
  • Coming in Late, Taking a 20 min bathroom break as
the preaching is starting, playing with your cell
    phone, writing notes

11
Application
Sometimes we look at sin and see only what we
consider to be bad things, the cussing, drugs,
drinking, etc. God actually tells us that What we
know to do thats right and chose not to do, is
also sin. We must take responsibility for our
actions, We know God wants us to meet together to
worship him, so when we chose something instead
it is sin. When we chose to ignore God for the
week it is sin. When we avoid hearing the
preaching by doing other things it is a sin. When
we refuse to witness, it is a sin.
12
Conclusion
  • Many people want to replace Gods Commandments
    with personal preferences
  • I will sing in the choir instead of Witness,
thats good if you have a voice then you should
use it, but witnessing is a command
  • Ill have church at home, maybe even a little
Bible study, thats nice but the Bible says not
to forsake the coming together with your brothers
and sisters in the Lord, Dont replace services
    with your own
  • Im here, isnt that enough, you want me to pay
    attention too?

13
Final Thoughts
Just like the highway, if you find a traffic
jam(Problem) that will keep you from moving
(growing) take a different rout home. Sin is the
biggest traffic jam in the Christian life and
even though we may not be stopped by what weve
been doing we may be stopped by what were
not. (Dont Run out of gas or get a flat tire)
