I desire therefore that the men pray in every
place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and
disputing.
(1 Timothy 28)
3
(1 Timothy 21-2) I exhort therefore, first of
all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions,
thanksgivings, be made for all men for kings and
all that are in high place that we may lead a
tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and
gravity.

And even as they refused to have God in their
knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate
mind, to do those things which are not fitting
being filled with all unrighteousness,
wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness full of
envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity
whisperers, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent,
haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents, without understanding,
covenant-breakers, without natural affection,
unmerciful who, knowing the ordinance of God,
that they that practise such things are worthy of
death, not only do the same, but also consent
with them that practise them.

  • John JayWhether our religion permits
Christians to vote for infidel rulers is a
question which merits more consideration than it
seems yet to have generally received either from
the clergy or the laity. It appears to me that
what the prophet said to Jehoshaphat about his
attachment to Ahab "Shouldest thou help the
ungodly and love them that hate the Lord?" 2
Chronicles 192 affords a salutary lesson. The

Franklin God governs in the affairs of man.
And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground
without his notice, is it probable that an empire
can rise without His aid? We have been assured in
the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build
the house, they labor in vain that build it. I
firmly believe this. I also believe that, without
His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this
political building no better than the builders of

Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had
daily prayers in this room for Divine protection.
Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were
graciously answered do we imagine we no longer
need His assistance?
