4MAJOR FINDINGS
- Inactive people can improve well-being with
moderate activity done on a regular basis. - Physical activity need not be strenuous to have
benefits. - Greater health benefits can be achieved by
increasing the amount (duration frequency or
intensity) of physical activity.
5REGULAR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IMPROVES HEALTH IN
THESE WAYS
- controls weight
- builds and maintains bones muscles and joints
- promotes psychological well-being
6INACTIVITY IS A SERIOUS NATIONAL PROBLEM
- ADULTS
- 60 of adults do not engage in regular activity.
- 25 are not active at all!
- Inactivity increases with age and is more common
among women less educated lower incomes.

- ADOLESCENTS
- Nearly half of those 12-21 are not vigorously
active on a regular basis. - Physical activity declines dramatically with age.
- Females are much less active than male
adolescents.

- Percentage of young people who are overweight has
doubled in past 30 yrs. - Report recognizes that all people over the age of
