Objectives
  • Essential Question Why do we want to protect our
    environment?
  • Unit Question Is Suisun Marsh Healthy? Why or
    why not?
  • Content Question How can conductivity indicate

Specific conductance
  • Specific conductance is a measure of the ability
of water to conduct an electrical current.
  • It is highly dependent on the amount of dissolved
solids (such as salt) in the water.
  • Specific conductance is an important
water-quality measurement because it gives a good
idea of the amount of dissolved material in the
    water.

Specific Conductance
  • Conductivity is measured by placing two
electrodes (with opposite electrical charge) in
    the water.
  • The ease or difficulty of the flow of electrical
current through liquids makes it possible to
divide them into two broad categories
    electrolytes and nonelectrolytes.
  • Units of conductivity micromhos/cm

Conclusion
  • Specific conductance is a measure of the ability

  • The units of conductivity are micromhos/cm
  • Conductivity ratings changes with the tide.
  • Notice the bridge conductivity levels changed
    significantly between Jan.29 and Mar.15
