Get Results with Newspapers
  • Regional Newspapers
  • Work Where You Need Them

Prepared by Metro-Suburbia, Inc.

A New Day Begins At...
  • 4102 Ardmore Dr.
  • 600AM the clock radio goes off. She goes to
wake the kids, while he fixes the coffee. Bacon,
eggs and toast for them, cereal and milk for the
kids, as they read their morning newspaper.
  • Showers all around. A shave here, hair spray
there. Blue suit and maroon tie for him,
fashionable dress for her, designer jeans and
Reeboks for the kids. They hop in the cars, him
to the office, her by school, then to her job...

3
  • Pretty ordinary, mundane, everyday stuff. The
    American way of life.
  • It also takes place at 4104 Ardmore and at 24
other homes on Ardmore and on Butner Road...and
on Kings Rd...and over on Ben Hill...
  • And in southwest Birmingham...and Mobile...and
    throughout Alabama...and in New
    Orleans...St.Louis...Portland...Cleveland...
    Syracuse...BuffaloHartford...Grand
    Rapids...Manchester...Upstate New York... in New
    Jersey...and across the USA.

4
  • This quite ordinary scene is being repeated by
people all over the country who are faced with a
    lot of choices every day...
  • White, wheat or multigrain bread? Decaffeinated
or regular coffee? Eggs or egg substitute? Low
sodium or reduced fat bacon? Where we buy our
clothes and what brands. What kind of car we
    drive and what financing options.
  • The ordinary morning has extraordinary impact on
    industry, manufacturing, marketing and YOU!

5
  • You help influence the decisions of this daily
scene, which are repeated over and over again,
    across the country...
  • ...until they eventually become cases, barrels,
carloads, shiploads, sales or even discounted,
    rebated and overstocked items.

6
  • And you have lots of advertising choices...
  • Television, radio, magazines, outdoor, the
Internet, direct mail, on the back of your
register receipt, in your bank statement, before
your movie rental, even on keychains and handouts
    under your wiper blade...
  • Every day there is something new because of new
technology or new ideas, but the fact remains...

  • And the daily newspaper...quite ordinary, quite
  • a part of everyday life...reaches more adults --

  • and more of your best prospects -- than
    television.
  • In fact, while television has the potential to
reach everyone, only 32 of adults are watching
during an average half hour of primetime.

  • A recent study shows that 62 of adults
actually avoid TV commercials by switching to
something else or leaving the room altogether.

Newspapers Even Capture a Greater Proportion of
Heavy Television Viewers.

    readers
  • view primetime television during an average
    half hour.

  • Newspapers even reach
  • Generation Xers (16 to 29 year olds)
  • During an average week, nearly two-thirds of
these young adults read both a weekday and Sunday
    newspaper
  • Generation Xers spend an average of 45 minutes
reading a daily newspaper and an average of 59
    minutes reading a Sunday newspaper

home delivered and 33 are single copy buyers.

  • No other advertising medium consistently reaches
    so many people so often.
  • Over 56 million newspapers are sold daily, with
an average of 2.2 readers per copy...thats over
123 million adult readers every day.
  • And on Sunday, over 60 million newspapers are
sold, with an average of 2.3 readers per
copy...rising to over 138 million adults.

15
  • And the Fact is
  • Newspaper is the Largest Advertising Medium!
  • ...Bigger than Broadcast TV, Radio,
  • Direct Mail and Outdoor.
  • And there is one reason that it is and has been...

In short No other medium comes close to the
reach that newspapers deliver each and every
day......an audience greater than the much-hyped
Super Bowl.
  • 6 out of every 10 U.S. adults read the newspaper
    on the average weekday
  • 7 out of every 10 U.S. adults read the newspaper
    on the average Sunday...
  • ...and that influences the decisions that...
  • Make the sales that
  • Move the trucks, trains and planes that
  • Run the plants to make the products that
  • Make the profits for your clients.
