Interior Design

• The illustration above shows the interior of the
  Schroder House designed by Gerrit Rietveld in
  1924. Comment on the way in which Rietveld uses
  colour, line and shape in order to create this
  style of interior. (10 marks)
• Rietvelds interiors have a strong sense of
  unity. Discuss the interior(s) of any other
  designer, or group of designer, displaying a
  similar sense of unity. (20 marks)

POINTS TO MAKE IN YOUR ESSAY

• In discussing this interior, particular reference
  should be made to Rietvelds use of strong
  primary colour set against neutrals. Comment is
  also expected on the designers use of straight
  horizontal and vertical lines creating simple
  geometric shapes within the interior.
• Answers should make reference to what is meant by
  sense of unity in interior design. Discussion
  should centre around the intended use of the
  interior and how the designer has attempted to
  meet the needs of the client by considering all
  aspects of the interior including colour,
  furniture, fittings, materials and use of space
  in a unified manner.
