WORKING OF SWHS
THE SOLAR WATER HEATER IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE
OF BLACK BODY ABSORPTION. THE BLACK SURFACE OF
COLLECTOR ABSORBS HEAT ENERGY FROM SUN AND
TRANSFERS IT TO THE WATER PASSING THROUGH THE
TUBES OF COLLECTOR.

4
WHY SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEM ?
  • Solar water heating system is the most
techno-economically viable option for low grade
    water heating applications.
  • Solar water heating technology is a mature
technology with a manufacturing base of more than
80 BIS approved flat plate collector
manufacturers and more than 30 evacuated tube
collector based solar water heating system.
  • 1000 solar water heating systems of 100 lpd
capacity contribute to peak loading shaving of 1
MW and each 100 lpd system contribute to 1.5 tons
    CO2 emission reduction.

5
INITIATIVES FOR SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTMES
  • Haryana is the first State in the country to
    issue a comprehensive notification dated
29.07.2005 on Energy Conservation Measures. It
makes Solar Water Heating Systems mandatory for
water heating application in all functional
buildings where hot water is required.
  • The Haryana Urban Development Authority has
adopted the mandatory provisions on HAREDA vide
    their letter dated 28.11.05.
  • The Department of Urban Local Bodies, Haryana
has also amended the Haryana Municipal Building
    Bye-laws vide Notification dated 16.11.07.

6
NOTIFICATION ON MANDATORY USE OF SWHS
  • Solar Water Heating has been made mandatory in
  • industries,
  • hospitals and Nursing Homes, Govt. Hospitals,
  • Hotels, Motels and Banquet Halls,
  • Jail barracks,
  • Canteens, Housing Complexes set up by Group
    Housing Societies/Housing Board,
  • all Residential buildings built on a plot of size
500 sq.yds. and above falling within the limits
    of Municipal Committees/Corporations and HUDA
    Sectors, and
  • all Govt. buildings, Residential Schools,
    Educational Colleges, Hostels, Technical/Education
al Institutes, District Institute of Education
and Training, Tourism Complexes and Universities
    etc.

PROMOTION OF SWHS AS DSM
  • To promote SWHS, Rebate upto Rs.300/- per month
for three years in electricity bills for domestic
users. On 100 lpd system rebate is _at_Rs100/- per
month, on 200 lpd system rebate is Rs.200/- per
month and on system of capacity 300 lpd or more,
the rebate is Rs.300/- per month for three years.
  • Capital subsidy on domestic solar water heater up
to Rs.10000/- for all Haryana residents. On flat
plate collector based system, the subsidy is
_at_Rs.2500/- per sq. meter of the collector area
limited to Rs.10,000/- and for ETC based
systems, the subsidy is _at_ Rs.4000/- per 100 lpd
    limited to Rs.8000/-.
  • During 2008-09, 250 domestic solar water heating
systems of 52,000 lpd capacity were installed
    which is a record.

DEMONSTRATION OF SWHS IN SOCIAL SECTOR
  • Only State in the country to provide 90
financial assistance on installation of solar
water heating systems in social sector
    institutions. This initiative has been
    appreciated by the MNRE/GOI
  • Institutions like Old Age Homes, Working Women
    Hostels, Orphanages, Charitable NGO institutions,
    Deaf Dumb Rehabilitation Centers, Sports
Hostels, Hostels for SC students, Natural
Treatment centers, Red Cross institutions, Govt.
hospitals etc. are eligible for financial
    assistance.
  • The scheme received a very good response from
    the social sector institutions.
  • In 2008-09, solar water heating systems of 84,500
lpd capacity were installed in 41 social sector
    institutions.

9
ACHIVEMENTS OF SWHS PROGRAMME
  • During the last 3 years, 388 solar water heating
systems of 4,83,500 LPD were installed in the
state which is 369 more than the corresponding
previous 3 years period leading to peak load
    shaving of 4.83 MW.
  • During 2008-09, SWHS of 2,02,500 liters capacity
were installed leading to a peak load shaving of
2.02 MW and reduction of emission of 3038 tones
of CO2 which is a record.
  • One of the largest SWHS of 50,000 litres
capacity was installed in the Chelsea Textile
    Mills, Gurgaon.
  • Since inception of the programme, 1400 SWHS of
12,05,000 litres capacity have been installed in
    the State.
