When a Jewish Person Dies
  • The body is covered with a sheet .
  • A lighted candle is placed near the head.
  • A close family member will make a symbolic tear
    in their clothes.

Before the Funeral
  • A group of volunteers will wash and prepare the
    body.
  • The dead person is then dressed in a simple white
    shroud
  • Jewish tradition teaches that everyone should be
    equal in death.
  • The dead person is then placed in a plain coffin.

The Funeral Service
  • The funeral service involves four elements
  • A short procession to the cemetery
  • The burial
