  • (2) older students will use MS Office to interact
    do fun activities with their Reading Soulmates
    buddy.

  • Write alternate endings.

Microsoft Publisher
  • Students work together to generate
    advertisements, pamphlets, book markets
    and movie posters about books read.
  • Upon completion of a book the older student
    create a certificate for their Reading Buddy
  • And present them with a book.

Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Excel can be extremely complicated,
    however it does not present any obstacle in this
    project.
  • The basic functions are taught, such as, taking
    data that has been collected and putting it into
    MS Excel to create graphs and charts.
  • Near the end of the project students graph and
    create charts from their surveys.
  • Students who are more advanced will be provided
    one-on-one assistance to further explore MS
    Excel.

  • Create Power Point Presentation on books read.
  • Create an informative slide show that explain the
    books.
  • Create a show outlining the plot
  • Create a quiz slide
  • Create a presentation regarding the main
    elements of a story.

  • Explore the anatomy of web pages and web quests.
  • Create simple web pages and web quests.
  • Create web quests and web pages on the books that
    they read.
  • Through out the project the students will also
    maintain the Webbing into Literacy website.

MS Outlook Express
  • Partner with other community technology centers
    through the US and correspond via email.
  • Learn about different cultures through e-pal
    program with third world countries.
  • How to use MS Outlook Express to manage their
    email accounts as well as send email.

Multimedia
  • All students are learning how to use various
    types of multimedia equipment such as digital
    cameras, digital video cameras, microphones and
    audio recorders.
  • Put these new skills to use in creating their web
    pages.
  • Post pictures, videos and audio clips of the
    project in action onto the Webbing into Literacy
    web page.

Conclusion
  • Upon completion (1) little buddies are
    presented with a book and a certificate that
    their BIG Buddy created in MS Publisher.
  • (2) Big buddies are broken into groups
  • Each group will create a training tool in their
    assigned Microsoft Office Program (i.e., the
    Front page group will create a web page and the
    MS Excel group will conduct surveys and create
    data table and graphs).
  • Student's projects are limited ONLY to their
    imagination!!!

Celebration
  • Big buddies are rewarded with a Pizza Party and a
    15 gift card at Barnes Nobles
  • Little buddies are rewarded with a pizza party
    and gifts from their Big buddy a special
    certificate and book to add to their personal
    library.
