Title: COE Preparing for Submission k20

COE Preparing for Submission k-20
  • Amanda Mount
  • December 2008

2
COE and the state standards
  • To submit a sufficient collection a student must
address the WASL learning strands and targets
and/or appropriate examples of expository and
persuasive writing. This coverage of the state
standards ensures comparability of the content to
    the WASL.

3
Sufficiency Overview
  • A sufficient collection must have
  • The required number of work samples
  • Two on-demand work samples
  • Three required signatures
  • and
  • All forms filled out entirely

4
2 steps for a COE
  • The first step, sufficiency, takes place before
scoring. It is a review of the requirements in
    the COE.
  • The second step is scoring. It is the process of
scoring a COE to determine if a student met the
    standard.
  • Today we are focusing on the sufficiency process.

5
Sufficiency 1
  • The collection will be reviewed at the whole
collection level to make sure that all of the
required documents are thoroughly filled out.

6
Sufficiency 2
  • The collection will be reviewed at the work
sample level to make sure that all of the work
    samples match the content requirements.

7
COE Sufficiency Checklist
  • Sufficiency Checklist for Math, Reading, and
    Writing
  •
  • When a collection is submitted for scoring, a
sufficiency review of the content takes place to
make sure that all collections contain the
required number of work samples, meet the
strands, targets, and purpose requirements, and
    include two on-demand work samples.

What happens if a binder is not sufficient?
  • We do not score collections that are not
    sufficient.
  • Districts do not receive the 300.00 stipend
  • The collections are returned to the district for
    corrections to be made
  • These collections can then be resubmitted in the
    next scoring window

30
Sufficiency-best practice
  • We recommend a sufficiency check be completed at
the school and again at the district office.
  • Upon receiving the collection at the scoring
annex, we hold a final sufficiency check, to
determine if the collection is complete.
