Learning Objectives
  • Be able to understand the three-view drawing
    layout to determine what lines are missing.
  • Be able to complete the orthographic views of
    each object shown to include visible, hidden and
    center lines.
  • Be able to complete the views using the alphabet
    of lines.

Completing the views
  • Rather than give a complete pictorial of an
    object, frequently you will see problems take the
    form of complete the missing lines.
  • All lines added to drawings must fall within the
    existing outlines of the views.
  • Try to minimize the number of lines added to the
    drawing.

Visualizing the process
  • To help you visualize this, start with a complete
    block the overall size of the object.
  • Slice pieces from the block until the final
    object is created.
  • The following slides demonstrate this concept.
