Partnership for a Drug Free DetroitThe
Partnership for a Drug Free Detroit is a
comprehensive community based initiative of the
City of Detroit Department of Health and Wellness
Promotion, Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention,
Treatment and Recovery. Its Primary purpose and
function is to place substance abuse treatment
and prevention as a number one health priority
for the City of Detroit.

Committees of the Partnership for a Drug Free
Detroit include
  • Youth Development
  • Institute (YDI)
  • Advocacy Committee
  • Faith Based Initiative
  • Recovery Committee
  • Volunteer Committee
  • Speakers Bureau

Youth Development Institute (YDI) Chapters
  • YDI chapters consist of existing youth
    organizations that collectively respond to reduce
    substance abuse through prevention efforts
    initiated by youth.

YDI Chapters
  • Provide resources to other YDI chapters
  • Participate in annual Partnership events
  • Plan a city-wide youth conference
  • Participate in training workshops for facilitators
  • Gain support from other YDI chapters
  • Provide opportunities for youth to participate
    in more prevention activities

Youth Advisory Council
  • The Youth Advisory Council is the governing body
    of the Youth Development Institute.

Responsibilities of the Youth Advisory Council
  • Research current events, statistics, youth
    attitudes, and behaviors
  • Propose ideas to help resolve problems
  • Plan meetings, events, and activities
  • Promote ideas by budgeting, fund raising, media
    publicity, and hosting events.
  • Represent YDI Chapters

Youth Ambassadors
  • Are trained Peer Educators, and Peer Mentors
  • Have graduated from an 11-week substance abuse
    prevention program at the Detroit Department of
    Health and Wellness Promotion
  • Are responsible for starting drug free clubs
    within their schools.
  • Are leaders and role models for other youth.

Parents for Youth Volunteer Corp (PYVC)
  • Support staff
  • Support youth
  • Receive free training through Guiding Good Choices

Youth Development Institute Members
  • Youth aged 12-18 are encouraged to become members
    of the Youth Development Institute.
  • Youth members are invited to attend monthly
    Partnership meetings held in the auditorium of
    the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building from 530
    p.m. to 800 p.m., every 4th Thursday of the
    month.
