Statement
As an integral part of The College of Wooster,
the primary mission of The College of Wooster Art
Museum is to support and enhance the Colleges
goals of teaching, research, and service through
exhibitions, scholarship, collection
preservation, and public engagement . . . Core
goals include promoting campus-wide
collaborations and interdisciplinary dialogue and
acting as a catalyst for creative engagement
between the College and regional and national

  • II. MUSEUM STUDENT LEARNING GOALS

  • Students enrolled in a class, or who do research
    with the Director/Curator, will be able to
    demonstrate
  • 1. an ability to analyze and critically discuss
    visual art, in oral and written form
  • 2. an understanding of the variety of
    methodological approaches used within art
    history, studio art, and museology
  • 3. an ability to formulate, research, or support
    collection and exhibition contributions based on
    art historical and museum methods
  • 4. an understanding of how to contextualize art
    within its social function
  • 5. and an ability to develop, organize, and
    express ideas in a clear, and accessible manner.
  • Museology, more commonly referred to as museum
    studies, is the study of how to organize and
    manage museums and museum collections.
