  writing, you will receive a 50 for the essay.
  Have a list of the forbidden fruits while writing
  essays. Essays can be corrected for a maximum
  grade of a 75.

• I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours
• Only to be used in personal narratives
• Persuasive/Informative essays should not contain
  1st person pronouns

• Of course you feel and believe, you are
  writing the paper

Second- Person Pronouns

• You, Your, Yours
• DO NOT USE!!!!
• Using you can offend the reader
• Eating chocolate can make you obese.
• Eating chocolate can make one obese.

• Avoid using the word there
• There adds clutter to a sentence
• Ex. There was no one at the game.
• No one was at the game.
• - There can almost always be deleted from a
  sentence. Try it!

  sentence, and the sentence will still make sense.

• It is an overused word and can be replaced with
  many subordinating conjunctions.
• Many times people use so in place of therefore.

• Quote is a VERB
• Quotation is a NOUN
• I was quoted in the newspaper.
• I gave a quotation to the newspaper.

When and Where

• Do not use after IS!!!!
• Example
• A party is when we get together to celebrate.
• A party is a time when we can get together to
  celebrate.
• A party is where you hang out and have fun.
• A party is being held to allow us to have fun and
  hang out!

AVOID SO, VERY, PRETTY, JUST, ONLY, and REALLY

• It is really exciting.
• It is so exciting.
• It is very exciting.
• This is pretty exciting.
• It is just too easy.
• It is only a party.

ALOT, ALRIGHT

• Alot is not a word!!!! A Lot should only be
  used when speaking about a PARKING LOT!
• ALRIGHT should be written as two words all right.
