Electronic Submission Process
  • New ProcessNew Formsbut Its Still About the
    Science!
  • Our philosophy and policy has not changed!

7
The Plan
  • OMB set the following FY 2007 goal for agencies
Post 100 of funding opportunities on Grants.gov
    Apply.
  • By the end of Sept. 2007, NIH plans to
  • Require electronic submission through Grants.gov
    for all NIH grant applications
  • Transition from the PHS 398 application form to
    the SF424 (RR)

8
Weve Come A Long Way
  • NIH has received over 18,000 unique electronic
    applications
  • Over 16 mechanisms have transitioned
  • Record-breaking June submissions went smoothly
  • eRA Processing capabilities have increased
    dramatically from Dec. 2005

9
Successful Transitions

Transitioning in 2007
11
NIH Preparation for R01s
  • We expect 4,500-5,000 unique R01 applications in
    February
  • We have already accepted R01 applications as part
of a pilot for multi-PI applications in
    September
  • We have done extensive risk analysis and capacity
    planning to ensure readiness
  • Increased resources for Help Desk and staff
    training
