LGE No. 1 in Korea TV, Global 42-inch LCD Sales
LG Electronics was the top seller of 42-inch LCD
TVs worldwide during the past two quarters, as
well as the top TV maker in the Korean market.
According to market research firm Display Search,
LGE recorded 29.7 and 24.1 in the second and
third quarters respectively, beating out Phillips
to be the top maker of 42-inch LCD TVs. This fact
is
significant because LGE first launched the
hard-drive equipped Time Machine TV overseas in
the 42-inch size. This TV helped LGE increase
from only 7.8 in the first quarter of 2006 to
its current spot as No. 1 in that size. TV Sales
in the Korean market confirm the power of the
Time Machine TV LGEs market share grew by 45
this year, pushing LGEs Korean TV sales up to US
800 million, about US 100 million more than No.
2 maker Samsung. The strong Korean sales were due
in large part to expansion of the Time Machine TV
line into different sizes. This also hints at
future success in the global market for LGE.
Top IT Magazines Preview, Praise Shine Phone
The Shine Phone is making headlines around the
world even before its planned release outside of
Korea in 2007. The phone, which is very popular
in Korea, was previewed in T3, one of the U.K.s
top IT magazines. The magazine introduced it as
this months hottest new gadget. The magazine
also reviewed the phones key features, including
its mirror-like LCD
screen. The top mobile phone magazine in the
U.K., Mobile Choice, also ran a
feature on the Shine Phone. The article said the
Shine Phone had a different kind of beauty than
its predecessor, the Chocolate Phone, and that it
was worth anticipating. It is not common for
phones to receive this much attention before
their actual market launch. The strong interest
in LGEs Shine Phone is a lasting sign of the
Chocolate Phones success. The Shine Phone will
continue this global success story, said Chang

Make Blue Ocean Work through Smart Reports
T
o achieve the Global Top 3, we must increase
our efficiency and productivity so employees can
do the same work in half the time. In order to
achieve this Blue Ocean Work, the DA Company
tried several different programs. One of these
was the Smart Report program. Writing and
presenting
reports requires immense time and effort.
Although the reports are needed, people waste
time making the report look pretty. Also, many
reports are long or vague because the leaders
receiving the reports gave unclear direction in
the first place. To reduce this non-value added
effort and time, the DA Company introduced the
Smart Report guidelines. This guide standardized
the most common reports and dictated what
contents should be left out. They also offered
general instructions for all reports. The guide
split reports into four categories regular
reports, data-sharing reports, issue reports, and
TDR reports. Each report category had a set
format, which included limits for the length of
the report and its attachments. Regular reports,
for example, could only be one page, with a one
page attachment. Thus preparation time was
minimized and content was emphasized. Through
this program, the DA Company reduced the length
of reports by 50. With their new-found time, DA
employees were able to concentrate on
results-creating, high-value work. By innovating
our culture to use Blue Ocean Work methods, like
Smart Reports, we can increase efficiency and
productivity for all employee.

'LGE WAY' Every Day
Using Teamwork to Improve Expert Competency
A
ccording to the LGE WAY, Right People must
have three basic traits determination,
execution, and an expert competency. Shen Yan, a
Change Agent in LGETR (China), decided her group
had the determination and execution, but needed
more emphasis on expert competency. So she
decided to attack the problem as a team. She
started a series of group learning sessions where
members would study topics together and teach
each other. They studied topics such as Six
Sigma, market management, and TDR methodology.
They would then quiz each other and provide small
rewards for those who learned the most. The
regular activity was highly effective, because it
not only improved the expert competency of group
members, but also strengthened teamwork as well.
For her efforts on this and many other programs,
Shen Yan was awarded the Great CA prize during
the GCGP Festival. In the future, Change Agents
must follow Shen Yans example and focus their
activities on improving the value of work in
their group.
