  • A NOUN is the name of a perosn, place, thing or
    idea.
  • There are SEVEN kinds of nouns
  • Common, Proper, Concrete,
  • Abstract, Collective , Compound and Possessive
    Nouns.

  • Common Nouns
  • noun that names any person, place, thing or
    idea.
  • Common nouns are not capitalized.
  • Ex man country document religion
  • Proper nouns
  • - A noun that names a specific person, place,
    thing or idea.
  • Proper nouns are always CAPITALIZED.
  • Ex Mrs. Kirk Canada Constitution Islam

  • Concrete nouns
  • name things that can be experienced with any of
    the five senses- touch,sight, hearing, smell and
    taste.
  • Ex frown book rain library music
  • Abstract Nouns
  • Names ideas, qualities, or feelings that can not
    be experienced with any of the senses.
  • Ex sadness truth freedom intelligence

  • Compound Nouns
  • - nouns that are made up of two or more words
    Ex snowmobiles, baseballs
  • Compound nouns can be one word like football,or
    more than one word, like rocking horse.Ex home
    runs quarter horses
  • Other compound words are joined by a hyphens such
    as hand-me-down or runners-up
  • Possessive Nouns
  • -names who or what has something.
  • Possessive nouns ca be common or proper.
  • To form the possessive of all single nouns and of
    plural nouns not ending in S , add an
    apostrophe and S .
  • To form the possessive of plural nouns that end
    in S, just add only an apostrophe.
