  • Fluorescence in Polymer Thin Film MEH-PPV was
    studied as a function of device structure (1) no
    metal, (2) Ag mirror, and (3) Ag nanoparticles

A substantial increase in PL occurs for polymer
films (right) on Ag Nanoislands (below) vs.
controls.
PL enhancement in highest for LiF spacer films
40 nm thick, an order of magnitude higher than
for small dyes, due to the stronger quenching in
polymers.
Overall, we observe a maximum enhancement of 7x,
the highest ever observed in a polymer thin
film. We attribute this to surface enhanced
fluorescence.
