MISSION STATEMENT
  • For more than three decades, ESSENCE has been the
only magazine dedicated to reflecting Black women
and their lives. The mission has not changed. It
has, however, evolved along with the women for
whom the magazine exists. Today's ESSENCE speaks
to a reader who is defined not by her age or her
income, but by her mind-set. Rather than
addressing her as a woman with one interest, one
style and one perspectivewe see her and speak to
her as multidimensional. The ESSENCE woman always
wants to look goodand to feel as good as she
looks. She values her independence, but she also
wants to be successful in her relationships.
    She's a go-getter at work and a source of
stability at home. She's spiritual, ambitious and
socially conscious. And she loves her family
fiercely. ESSENCE understands these needs and
    responds to themwith information, advice,
affirmation and inspiration. We empower our
reader to take action and to address the concerns
she faces in her world. We have our ear to her
heart. We speak her language. We are among her
    dearest friends.

REVIEWS
  • New To The Issue, January 5, 2004 Reviewer
Joy (Springfield) - See all my reviews For many
years, I've seen this magazine in the grocery
store checkout line counters, and I have flipped
through the pages. One day I decided to get a
subscription, and I'm glad I did. The magazine is
beautiful, ethnic, and it has wonderful articles.
It is informative and educational about
relationships and being healthy. In its attempt
of positiveness, it is an invalueable tool for
    girls of any age.
  • As for the stars they interview, you do learn
about them. In my opinion, we will never truly
learn how these celebrities are. The articles are
simply a glimpse and not at all the true sense of
a person, but it gives you an idea if you're
curious or have doubts about certain people.
  • If you decide to get this subscription, get it
based on the decision to better yourself and not
because of the celebrity interviews even though
in some ways they are a plus. Enjoy.
  • Joy.
