Title: Biomes

1
Biomes
  • Done By Sabeha Ramji

2
What is a Biome?
  • A Biome is a large ecosystem where plants,
animals, insects and people live in a certain
    type of climate.

3
Some types of Biomes are.
  • Arctic Tundra
  • Coniferous forest
  • Deciduous forest
  • Desert
  • Grasslands
  • Tropical Rainforest

4
Arctic Tundra
  • The Arctic Tundra is the worlds coldest Biome.
  • The climate in the Arctic Tundra is below 30
    degrees Farenhite in the winter.
  • You can find Marshes, shrubs, cushion plants, and
a few flowers in early Autumn.

5
Arctic Tundra (Cont.)
  • Something surprising about the Arctic Tundra is,
you cannot find trees in this Biome.
  • More than 100 species of birds are attracted to
    food in the Tundra.
  • The arctic Tundra is always frozen.

6
Coniferous Forest
  • It is often very cold in the coniferous Forest.
  • You can find Spruce, Hemlock and Fir trees in the
    Coniferous Forest.
  • Most of the trees you can find in the Coniferous
    forest are Cone bearing trees.

7
Coniferous Forest (cont.)
  • Some of the birds you can find in this forest are
birds such as the Cross-bill and the Great Horned
    Owl.
  • Animals in the Coniferous forest are The Ermine,
Moose, Red Fox, and the snowshoe Rabbit.

8
Deciduous Forest
  • The Deciduous Forest has a mild temperature.
  • In this forest you can find, deciduous Trees, Oak
trees, beach trees, Ash trees, Maple trees, a few
    wildflowers, and some berries

9
Deciduous forest (cont.)
  • A fact about Deciduous Forests is that the
natural decaying of fallen leaves from deciduous
trees enrich the soil and supports all kinds of
    plant/animal life.

10
Grasslands
  • The climate in the Grasslands is Hot and dry.
  • You can find a few trees and lots of grass in the
    Grasslands.
  • The grasslands receive not very much rain,
therefore, very few trees can grow out in the
    Grasslands.

11
Grasslands (cont.)
  • There are different types of grasslands. Such
asTropical Grasslands- Savannas and also two
    types of Temperate Grasslands.
  • A fact about grasslands is that they include one
very long plant called the Big bluestem.

12
Tropical Rainforest.
  • Tropical rainforests receive at least 70 inches
    of rain every year.
  • In the Tropical Rainforest, you can find vines,
palms, shrubs, ferns, herbs, mosses, and fungi.
  • Tropical rainforests have different heights and
layers of different types of plants In different
    areas.

13
Tropical Rainforest (cont.)
  • A surprising fact about tropical rainforests is
that they have the most species of plants and
    animals than any other Biome.

14
Desert
  • Deserts lack water.
  • Some deserts are hot and dry while others are
    cold and dry.
  • There is no plant life in the desert because of
    the hot climate.

15
Desert (cont.)
  • Scientists estimate that about one fifth of the
    earths surface is desert!
  • Some animals that live in deserts are the
Armadillo lizard, The Bobcat, the Cayote, The
Javelina, The Antelope, The Desert Tortoise, The
Desert Kangaroo, and The Pygmy Owl.
