The Problem

• A young man wants his sheep to lamb in the fall
  (out-of-season).
• 20 Suffolk Ewes, 2 rams
• For care of the sheep, the young man will be
  around on weekends and his brother will be there
  during the week.

Treatment Protocol

• Easi-Breed CIDR along with eCG
• Day 0
• insert CIDR
• Day 12
• Remove CIDR
• Ovulation is induced because of LH surge
• Inject 400 IU of eCG or PMSG
• Formation of corpus luteum
• Day 14
• Natural mating or insemination 44-48 hours after
  CIDR removal

• Out-of-season breeding (springtime)
• Ewes not cycling
• Will work only when BOTH eCG and CIDR are used
• In-season breeding (fall)
• eCG not necessary
• CIDRS used only to regulate cycles

• Trial and error method
• Hard to compare in-season and out-of-season
  breeding

Labor needs

• Must be present in springtime for treatment and
  breeding at days 0, 12, and 14
• During lambing season
• Brother will be present during the week
• Client will be around on weekends
