• In her novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee

• Jem is learning to comprehend some of the darker
  aspects of human nature.

• Jem treats others as people not as if they are in
  a caste system.

• As Jem gets older his emotions begin to get much
  stronger.
  
• He stood there until nightfall, and I waited for
  him. When he went in the house I saw he had been
  crying his face was dirty in the right places,
  but I thought it odd that I had not heard him.
  (pg 63)
• Jem loves his dad and does not want him to get
  heart at the court house.

Brave

• Jem is the older child out of two so he has to
  take more risks.
  
• Jem skipped two steps, put his foot in the
  porch, heaved himself to it, and teetered along
  moment. He regained his balance and dropped to
  his knees, he crawled to the window, raised his
  head and looked in. (Pg 46)
• As Jem takes more risks, he also has to face more
  danger.
  
• Jem held the bottom wire Dill and I rolled
  through and were half way to the shelter of the
  schoolyards solitary oak when he sensed that Jem
  was not with us. We ran back and found him
  struggling in the fence, kicking his pants off to
  get loose. He ran to the oak tree in his
  shorts. (Pg 53-54)

Caring

• Even though Jem is much older than his siblings
  he still respects them.
  
• Catching Walter Cunningham in the school yard
  gave me some pleasure, but when I was rubbing his
  nose in the dirt Jem came by and told me to stop,
  Youre biggern he is, he said. (Pg 22)
• He is consend when overs were in truble.
• Why dont they hurry, why dont they
  hurry(Pg 69)
