  • More people claiming Incapacity Benefit as a
    result of mental ill health 68,240 in the East
    Midlands (Jobcentre Plus Nov 2007)
  • Incapacity Benefit claims on a basis of mental
    health are increasing throughout the East
    Midlands an average increase of 8.4 between
    2000 and 2007 (ONS/JCP 2007)
  • Up to 4.7 of the working population of the E
    Midlands has been claiming Incapacity Benefit
    because of ill health
  • (neighbourhood.statistics .gov.uk 2008).

  • People with mental health problems have the
    lowest employment rate of all disabled groups
    27 in the East Midlands.
  • Mental health problems are the biggest cause of
    sickness absence from work thirty times more
    days are lost to mental ill health than to
    industrial disputes.

  • Increase opportunities support for people with
    mental health problems who are workless, and
    possibly receiving Incapacity Benefit /
    Employment Support Allowance or other income
    assistance, to re-enter, remain and progress in
    work
  • Reduce workplace absence and presenteeism due
    to mental health problems primarily helping
    those off sick due to stress, anxiety and
    depression to quickly return to, and stay in
    work
  • Promote positive images concerning mental health
    and employment and challenge discrimination
    directed at people with mental health problems.

    significant budgets
  • RET has had small budget to cover running costs
    to date
  • Bid in to allow RET to move forward on the agenda
    and deliver outcomes on Mental Health agenda for
    the next 2 years and
  • East Midlands PSA 16 - ESF bid prime example of
    funding becoming available and successfully bid
    for.
