  • Double Major, Minor, or Certificate
  • In something technical or business related
  • Internship / Co-Op
  • Two at different companies
  • Volunteer Organizations / Professional Societies
  • Shows leadership and commitment

Resume
  • Include Relevant Experience
  • Non-Technical Experience can be listed if
  • It is a significant amount of time
  • Demonstrates Leadership skills
  • Include Relevant Education
  • Non-technical or non-business education can be
    listed if it could be useful to the prospective
    employer
  • If by leaving this out, there is a gap in your
    resume, then it needs to be wordsmithed such that
    the person reading it knows what you did for that
    time period
  • Volunteer Experience
  • List only instances of leadership

  • Do not include
  • Vague qualities like
  • likes to read books
  • Likes to Golf, handicap in Golf, etc
  • Likes to sail
  • Quantitate in your resume
  • So that employers know how much you did
  • Best to tailor each resume to each prospective
    employer to emphasize relevant experience and
    education
  • (Example Resume)

Cover Letter
  • Hard to write
  • Individual cover letter for each job applied for
  • NEVER use a generic cover letter
  • Start by introducing yourself
  • Second what job you are applying for
  • Third why you are applying for that Job
  • Couple your assets and interests to your
    potential contributions to the position
  • Include company research
  • Why you want to come work for Company XYZ

  • Always include Cover Letters
  • Makes your resume more personable and shows your
    enthusiasm in applying to the company
  • Most often not initially looked at by HR, but
    will be looked at during interview by
    professionals

  • Always wear a suit
  • Bring 4 extra copies of resume and cover letter
  • Be polite and show interest in the position
  • Get everyones business cards
  • Or names will suffice
  • Make eye contact and smile
  • Mock interviewing experience is always helpful
  • Leave with What are the next steps in the
    process?

  • Thank you letters
  • Thank the person for their time in your
    application process
  • Re-emphasize your interest in the company
  • Please send within 3 days of interview
  • Be Patient, do not pester the employer
  • Ethics

    for that job warrents an offer
  • Have backups
  • Even worse than applying for college
  • Offer, always have someone look it over before
    you sign
  • Only negotiate once
