    definition of the words

  • One group member will share their group
    definitions to the class.

SELF-ESTEEM
  • If you feel Good about yourself, you have a high
    self-esteem or positive self-esteem!
  • If you feel Bad about yourself, you have a low
    self-esteem or a negative self-esteem.

Examples of Low Self-Esteem
  • Frustrated
  • I was frustrated when I could not understand my
    homework.
  • Disappointed
  • My mom was disappointed in me when I broke her
    vase.
  • Annoyed
  • I tapped my pencil on my desk so the teacher
    would be annoyed and get mad at me.
  • Insult
  • When I called Jenny, stupid, I hurt her
    feelings.
  • Intimidate
  • When Angie hit me in the arm to steal my lunch,
    I was afraid.

Examples of High Self-Esteem
  • A role model to others.
  • I am going to help David with his homework just
    like my older brother, who helps his friends with
    their homework.
  • Is not a threat to others and cannot be
    threatened by others.
  • I do not listen to Cindy, when she tells me that
    my shoes are ugly.
  • Believes in self and makes life successful
  • I am going to go to college to be a teacher.

Examples of High Self-Esteem
  • Know how to appreciate and look at life
    positively.
  • Every person is special.
  • Easier to make friends and have more meaningful
    relationships.
  • My friend Sara gives me a hug when I am
    feeling sad.
  • Failure is not devastating
  • The test was really hard and I got an C on it.
    But, next time I will study harder.

  • Can look at bad points and change them
  • I think that I am cranky and rude to people when
    I do not get enough sleep. I must go to bed
    earlier.
  • Apologize
  • I said, Im sorry, to my friend because I said
    something mean to her.
  • Willing to experiment and try things
  • I am going to climb the ladder to help my dad put
    up the picture frame, even though I am afraid of
    heights.

Self-Portrait Art Assignment
  • Using a mirror, you will draw a picture of how
    you see yourselves.
  • After you are done drawing, I will pair you up
    and you will share what you have drawn of
    yourself and why.

Who are you?
  • You will be given 10 strips of pieces of paper.
  • You will write a word or a phrase that describes
    yourself.
  • E.g. Smart, Funny, Sister, Dancer
  • Pick out one positive phrase or word about
    yourself to share with the class.

Classroom Caring Mirror
  • Each one of you will paint you favorite positive
    phrase or comment around the edge of a big
    mirror.
  • It will be hung in the classroom.
  • What does the mirror represent?

BUILDING A GOOD SELF-ESTEEM
  • Focus on your classmates and yourself doing the
    right thing instead of doing something wrong.
  • Talk in a positive way.
  • Thank others.
  • Do not make up excuses for your failure or
    mistakes.
  • Do things for others and feel good about it.
  • Accept others for who they are.
  • Do what you believe is best for you.
