Introduction

• When early humans began to design structures to
  be built by others, the field of architecture was
  started. The need for reading and interpreting
  construction drawings was developed. Over many
  centuries many graphic languages were developed
  to ensure structures were completed as designed
  by builders.
• Today we have the ability to use computers to
  provide designs, drawings and walkthrough
  examples of architectural structures that will be
  built.

Architectural Construction Plans

• Construction plans are understood by
  interpreting both the graphic language and the
  written language. The graphic language is
  composed of pictorial and multiview drawings.
  These drawings are prepared at various scales and
  use graphic architectural symbols to convey
  information relating to size, shape and materials
  specified. The written language is very important
  since construction terms, abbreviations and
  architectural synonyms are used extensively on
  plans to convey the wishes of the designer to the
  builder.
