CLIENT RISK POLICY ( MARCH 2008)
  • The Client Risk Policy 2008 and all its
attachments replaces the 2003 Managing Client
    Risks Policy.
  • The policy is for implementation in all DADHC
    operated services and funded non-government
    services.
  • The Client Risk Profile (Appendix A) was also
    revised.
  • The policy links regular risk assessment to the
    clients individual planning process.
  • The policy integrates the treatment of risks to
clients and to staff i.e. they are not separate
    incidents or strictly OHS issues.

PRACTICE SHOULD REFLECT POLICY
4
POLICY PURPOSE
  • Provides guidance to staff on how to
  • identify and assess risks to clients, staff and
    others
  • develop client risk management strategies and
    plans
  • monitor and review Client Risk Profiles and
    Client Risk Management Plans

IDENTIFYING MANAGING RISK IS CRITICAL
5
POLICY PRINCIPLES
  • All clients are assessed for risks to their
health and lifestyle, have an individual risk
profile and, if required, a risk management plan.
  • Occupational Health and Safety and duty of care
considerations are met while allowing clients to
    take reasonable risks.
  • Client Risk Profiles and Client Risk Management
Plans are reviewed 3-monthly as part of the 6-
    and 12-monthly Individual Planning review
    process.
  • Cultural, linguistic and religious needs of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and
those from culturally and linguistically diverse
(CALD) backgrounds are incorporated in risk
    management.
  • Disability workers are supported to develop risk
    management competencies including risk
    identification and assessment.

CLIENT RISK FRAMEWORK

    approach to risk management.
  • It enables staff to prevent or minimise injuries
    and incidents before they occur.
  • The Framework has five steps
  • Risk identification and assessment
  • Risk control and planning
  • Monitoring
  • Reviewing
  • Recording
  • The Framework is supported by the Client Risk
