    high levels of uric acid in blood and other body
    fluids such as synovial fluid

  • Pathophysiology
  • a. Uric acid is a breakdown product of purine
    metabolism and is normally excreted through urine

    males 2.4 6.0 mg/dL in females) lead to
    formation of urate crystals in peripheral tissues
    (synovial membranes, cartilage, heart, earlobe,
    kidneys) and perpetuate inflammation
