1The first thing you should know about DM5 is that
it is no longer necessary to launch DOCS Open
first. You can simply launch Word (or any other
application) from the desktop, or from the quick
launch toolbar.
2Once you are in Word, click File Open to display
the new Quick Retrieve dialog box. (The first
time you click this there may be a slight delay
while your computer connects to the document
management system.)
3The new Quick Retrieve dialog box has a
three-pane layout.
4On the left, youll see a list of libraries, as
well as a link to your recently edited documents.
5On the top right, youll see a list of documents
displayed, which in this case is the recently
edited documents list.
6The contents of the bottom pane will change
depend on which tab is selected. Right now the
profile for the highlighted document is displayed
7For example, clicking on the Viewer tab changes
to a preview of the highlighted document.
8If you expand one of the libraries, youll see
your Quick Searches and Public Folders listed for
that library.
9Quick Searches are where the Firm Searches (like
Form Documents) and any custom searches are
stored.
10Public Folders are where any projects you had in
DOCS Open have been converted.
11Easy Search allows you to conduct a quick search
of the system.
12Its most useful when you know the document
number you need. Simply type the number in and
click Find.
13To do a full profile search, click here
14The same profile search form you have been using
in DOCS Open will be displayed.
15Thats pretty much all you need to know to get
started! There is a new application called
Windows DM Explorer that you can use to browse
the document management system outside of Word or
other applications, but you do not have to use
it.
16The Training Department will be sending out more
information, including links to a more detailed
self-paced tutorial. There are some great new
features you may want to know about. The Help
Desk is also here to support you and can be
reached at x4357
17Thanks!
