At River Ridge, we believe that a strong
foundation in READING is the key that unlocks all
learning. For this reason, we take reading very
seriously!
11
Reading Log
Students are required to read daily, both at home
and at school. Students keep track of their
reading in their Reading Logs.
12
The Accelerated Reader Program is an integral
part of our reading program. Students are
monitored weekly to assess their reading level,
comprehension, and growth.
13
Music
Physical Education
In addition to their academic instruction,
students receive fifty minutes of instruction in
one of three special areas daily. Also, they have
thirty minutes of guidance and computer lab
weekly.

We are all anxiously awaiting the installation of
our playground. Be patient and continue to
support our efforts to raise sufficient funds for
its purchase. In the meantime, students can
socialize, walk the track, or play with our
playground balls.
15
A copy of your childs daily schedule can be
found in your 4th grade packet.
16
Students will be receiving agendas. These are
kept inside the binder and serve as a means of
daily communication between home and school.
17
In addition to written correspondence, you may
feel free to contact us via e-mail or by using
the voice mail system. These numbers are printed
in the fourth grade information packet you
received.
18
Signed Paper Folders
  • Signed Paper Folders will be sent home each
    TUESDAY.
  • Check the number of papers and sign-ins and
provide your signature in the appropriate spot.
  • Signed paper folders should be returned on
    WEDNESDAY.

19
Grading Policy There are 2 categories for grades
Major Tests Daily Grades
20
Major test grades include chapter or unit tests
as well as projects. These grades are recorded
twice and carry greater weight in the overall
average than do daily grades.
21
Daily grades include worksheets, in-class pencil
and paper assignments, announced quizzes and pop
quizzes. These grades are recorded once and carry
less weight in the overall average than do major
test grades.
22
Homework is assessed by the teacher for
completion each day and is checked by the student
for accuracy. It is viewed as practice which is
essential to the students success with content
material. Homework is NOT graded.
23
Make-Up Work When your child is absent, it is
most beneficial to him or her to get the missed
work before returning to school. We will prepare
a missed work agenda to be picked up or sent home
with a sibling or neighbor.
24
Grading Scale A90-100 B80-89
C73-79 D70-72F69
Beginning in the 4th grade, number rather than
letter grades are reported.
25
Honor Roll
Students who maintain A overall averages each
term in LA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
qualify for the Straight A Honor Roll. Students
who maintain all A and B overall averages each
term in LA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
qualify for the A B Honor Roll.
26
Classroom Management
We have found that positive reinforcement of
appropriate behavior and academic achievement
goes a long way in motivating student progress.
We want to insure that instructional time is
spent on instruction. Our plan is based on the
premise that Students will not interfere with
the instruction of the teacher. Students will
not interfere with the learning of other
students. No harm shall be inflicted on other
students in any way.
27
  • Our procedure for correcting inappropriate
    behavior
  • 1st sign-in verbal warning
  • 2nd sign-in loss of 10 minutes of recess
  • 3rd sign-in loss of entire recess and a
    behavior notice sent home
  • 4th sign-in notice home and parent conference
  • Severe disruptions will be referred to the
    office immediately.

28
Our motto is Doing our best work Outstanding
behavior Guaranteed Success
29
Top Dog Party Students who have observed the
motto by doing their best work and exhibiting
outstanding behavior (2 sign-ins or less) will be
rewarded at the end of each month with a Top Dog
Treat.
30
Field Trips
We are in the process of arranging several field
trips designed to enhance student learning. Our
plans are well under way, and the details will be
forth coming.
31

books each time. One book must always be an
on-level AR book. Check-outs are good for two
weeks.
32
