Who was she?
  • Womens Rights Advocate

What did she do?
  • Questioned womens rights at age 11.
  • Finished school at age 15.
  • Wanted to go to college.
  • Attended Troy Female Seminary.
  • Got married to Henry Stanton in 1840, an
    abolitionist.
  • Went to London with husband.

  • Met Lucretia Mott in London at the Worlds
    Anti-Slavery Convention where women were denied a
    seat.
  • Made plans to begin speaking out in America for
    womens rights.
  • Moved to Seneca Falls in 1847.
  • She stayed home with her family.
  • 1848 began to meet with other women about womens
    rights.

  • For the Seneca Falls Convention, she wrote the
    Declaration of Sentiment. This was the rights
    she thought women should have.
  • After some time off, she met Susan B. Anthony.
  • Began to write speeches and letters on womens
    rights.

  • After Civil War began, she started speaking out
    for slaves and womens rights.
  • When the 13th Amendment was passed, women were
    not included.
  • She began to work to change that.
  • Worked with Susan B. Anthony in Kansas, but they
    could not get a law passed on womens suffrage.

  • She opposed the 15th Amendment because it did not
    include women.
  • She tried to write her own amendment to the
    Constitution.
  • Organized a council for women.
  • At age 76 she gave her last speech.

Elizabeth Cady Stantons Legacy
  • Continued to write books and articles for womens
    rights, even though she was almost blind.
  • Family continued her work after she died.
  • 1920 the 19th Amendment was passed which gave
    women the right to vote.
  • Elizabeth and Susan wrote it in the 1870s,
