Banner 7
  • First of all, we would like to thank each of you
    for coming.
  • As you are aware, a new version of Banner will be
    available to the university on November 14.
  • We wanted to invite you to these sessions to
    introduce Banner 7 and demonstrate many of the
    new features available.

Monitor Display Resolution
  • Something new to Banner 7 is the monitor display
    settings.
  • Banner 7 is best viewed with a display resolution
    set to 1024 X 768.
  • By changing to the monitor display settings, the
    need for scroll bars has been removed.
  • The steps to adjusting the display settings are
    in your handout on page 3.
  • If you have difficulties in establishing this
    new display setting, please see your system
    administrators.

Logging into Banner
  • The Login procedure for Banner 7 has not changed.
  • Continue to use your current User ID and
    Password.

New Look to Main Screen
  • There have been basic screen design changes to
    the look of Banner 7.
  • The Banner screens have a crisper and cleaner
    look.
  • The main screen is divided into several sections,
    each performing a different function.

My Banner
  • The My Banner feature has been available in
    several past releases of Banner.
  • My Banner is an excellent tool to organize the
    forms you use most often.
  • To access the My Banner form, go to GUAPMNU.
  • The use of My Banner is discussed on page 7 in
    your handout.

Products
  • To the right of the screen, a pull-down list is
    available to display all product in Banner.
  • By using this pull-down list, users are provided
    another option to navigate through the various
    modules of Banner

My Links
  • There are two default links in the My Links
    section.
  • Change Banner Password provides quick and easy
    access to the form to change your Banner
    Password.
  • Check Banner Messages general messages to all
    users may be sent across Banner. This is a
    convenient method of viewing these messages.

  • Additionally, users may add URL links in the My
    Links section. The sites you visit often, my be
    accessed directly from the main screen on Banner.
  • (See Page 17 for complete instructions on
    creating URL links.)

Enhanced User Preferences
  • Strides have been taken to provide each user with
    the ability to personalize Banner on their
    desktops. These are available through Tab
    selections.
  • Access GUAUPRF to customize the look and feel
    of Banner.
  • You will be able to changes such things as the
    color scheme for the icons, divider lines and
    several other basic Banner features.

Enhanced User Preferences
  • In selecting the Enhanced Users Preferences
    section, users are able to control several of the
    display features of Banner.
  • Display Option
  • Alert Options
  • Color Schemes of the forms. This is discussed on
    page 16 of the handout.

Display Options
  • By default, these options are checked. By
    removing the check, that option is turned off.

Alert Options
  • These are also checked by default.
  • Users may choose to uncheck items any to make
    them inactive.
  • One item of interest may be, Prompt Before
    Exiting

Pop Up-blocker needed
  • It may be necessary take steps to prevent Pop-Ups
    from being displayed.
  • Pop-ups are discussed on page 18 of the handout.
  • If you are using Internet Explorer, you may need
    to do nothing. If you are using Netscape, it may
    be necessary to take these steps shown.

Methods of Navigation
  • In Banner, there a several key methods of basic
    navigation within forms.
  • Key Stroke combinations (see Show Keys discussed
    on page 19)
  • Menu Bar
  • Icon Tool Bar
  • Mouse click
  • These methods of navigation have reminded
    unchanged.

Navigating (cont.)
  • Now, a right- click while in the next block area
    of a form will display a list of options for a
    particular form.
  • Additionally, a small change in the renaming of
    the Go field to Go To.
  • Users have always been able to access up to the
    last 10 forms accessed by going to File and the
    forms being displayed. Now, you may place the
    cursor in the Go To field and arrow through all
    forms recently accessed.

Banner Icon Tool Bar
  • In Banner 7, icons located at the top of the form
    assist in navigation.
  • Generally, the icons are in the same location as
    in earlier versions.
  • Bubble Help is available to assist in making the
    proper selection.

Go To field
  • This is an easy method to access forms within
    Banner.
  • Enter the 7 character form name in the field and
    select Enter. The form will be displayed.
  • As mentioned, a new feature allows users to
    access previously viewed forms by placing the
    cursor in the field and using the up and down
    arrows to select forms.

Navigation Tips
  • Option Window within the Key Block area of a
    form, users will be able to right click and have
    a list of options display.
  • Notice the option, Add to Personal Menu. This
    feature will add the current form to your My
    Banner.

Key Strokes
  • Key Strokes are an available method of navigation
    within Banner.
  • To see Key Stroke functions, in the Menu Bar
    select Help/Show Keys.

Tabs
  • Several forms have now provided Tabs in the Next
    Block area of a form.
  • These Tabs are to assist users in navigating to
    various information.
  • By providing Tabs, Options are now available by
    selecting the Tab and the need for scroll bars on
    some forms are no longer necessary.

Navigation Key Window
  • While on a form, press F5 and a Display
    Navigation Window will display.
  • Users may then enter the desired form in the Go
    To field and the form will be displayed. (see
    page 20)
  • Also available is a link to My Institution.
  • To removed the window, press F5.

New Search features
  • The magnifying glass as a search button, has been
    replaced.
  • The blue lettering as a search tool has been
    removed from the forms.
  • New Search icons
  • If the arrow is within the field, there is a
    pull-down list available.
  • If the arrow is outside the field, users are
    allowed to search.
