Office of Field Placement
  • The Office of Field Placement (OFP) provides
    support services for the College of Education.
    As a support office, OFP works closely with all
    major departments in meeting the Illinois State
    Board of Educations (ISBE) mandated field
    experiences for teacher preparation programs.
    This responsibility is met in three different
    ways
  • Student teaching placement and monitoring
  • OFP makes field experience appointments for
    pre-selected courses.
  • Verification and housing of all field experience
    hours for COE students.

Field Experience Hours
  • Students must complete a minimum of 100 clock
    hours of field experience prior to student
    teaching. The OFP is responsible for obtaining
    sites and making appointments for observation
    hours as required in specific courses. These
    courses are
  • ECH 302/402
  • ELCF 152
  • ELCF 200
  • PSYCH 206
  • SPED 301/301G
  • SPED 303/303G
  • Each of these courses has different field
    experience requirements

ECH 302/402
  • of Field Hours 15
  • Placement Early Childhood Education settings
    (Pre-K through 3rd grade)
  • Purpose Students are asked to observe a variety
    of teaching styles in early childhood settings

ELCF 152
  • of Field Hours 10
  • Placement 2 hours elementary,
  • 2 hours high school,
  • 2 hours multicultural,
  • 2 hours in a non-school educational
    setting (students are required to
  • make their own appointment for the
    non-school educational setting),
  • 2 hours can be in either a elementary
    or high school, depending on the students
    interests
  • Purpose The variety of observation opportunities
    provide an introduction to the teaching
    experience.
  • Current Requirements 6 of 10 hours must be
    completed in the Chicago Public Schools
  • A multi-cultural school setting is one with
    racial/ethnic diversity

ELCF 200
  • of Field Hours 10
  • Placement 2 hours elementary,
  • 2 hours high school,
  • 6 hours can be in either a elementary or high
    school, depending on the students interests
  • Purpose Students are asked to view a variety of
    age levels in these field hours, but the focus is
    on the urban experience.
  • Current Requirements 6 of 10 hours must be
    completed in the Chicago Public Schools.

  • of Field Hours 10
  • Placement at least two different teachers in at
    least one high school or elementary school,
    depending on the students interest
  • Purpose Students are asked to observe varying
    teaching and disciplinary styles.

  • Purpose Students observe a variety of special
    education settings.

Procedures for Securing Appointment Outline
  • In order to secure an appointment, you must
    adhere to the following procedures
  • Obtain a Tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Select date(s) to observe
  • Select an observation site(s)
  • Select the arrival departure time(s)
  • Email the observation request to ofp_at_csu.edu
  • Confirm the observation appointment on the
    bulletin board outside of OFP and/or online

MANDATORY !!!Tuberculosis Test
  • Obtain a Tuberculosis Test (TB) or Chest X-Ray
  • Prior to observing at a school, you are required
    to obtain a current TB test or Chest X-ray.
  • A Tuberculosis Test is good for one year. A
    Chest X-Ray is good for two years.
  • You must provide proof of a negative TB test to
    your professor before you can observe.
  • Once you provide proof of a negative test , you
    will then receive a Field Experience Form
    (sign-in sheet) Letter of introduction from
    your professor. You will not be able to obtain
    these documents without your test results.
  • The observation appointment can be scheduled
    before you take your TB test however, you MUST
    provide documentation to your professor before
    you observe.
  • Check with CSUs Wellness Center (995-2011) or
    your local health centers for inexpensive testing
    sites.

Observation Periods
  • Select date(s) to observe
  • You must decide in a timely manner when you want
    to complete the field observation hours, then
    adhere to the sign-up deadlines to submit your
    requests.
  • Period 1 To Observe October 8th
    October 31st
  • Students must sign up no later than 3pm on
    Tuesday, September 25th
  • Observation appointments will be confirmed
    by Tuesday, October 2nd
  •  
  • Period 2 To Observe November 6th
    November30
  • Students must sign
    up no later than 3pm on Monday, October15th
  • Observation
    appointments will be confirmed by Wednesday,
    October 31st
  • Period 3 To Observe December 3rd
    December 19th
  • Students must sign
    up no later than 3pm on Monday, November 19th
  • Observation
    appointments will be confirmed by Tuesday,
    November 29th

Observation Sites
  • Select an observation site
  • You need to review and select an observation
    site
  • Download and/or review the observation school
    list.
  • CLICK Observation School List
  • Several high schools have provided special times
    (bell times) for students to arrive and depart.
    To obtain this information, click SEE SCHEDULE
    which is located underneath each school entry.
  • CLICK Non School Educational Setting List (For
    students enrolled in ELCF 152 only)

You will not have access to the schools on
the following dates
  • Each appointment must be at least two hours.
  • Elementary and High School
  • October 8th, 19th
  • November 2nd,12th, 22nd 23rd, 2007.
  • December 21st January 7, 2008.
  • February 11th, 12th 18th.
  • March 3rd, 17th-21st 2008.
  • April 11th,16th,17th, 2008.
  • May 26th 2008.
  • June 12th 2008.

Submit the Request to OFP
  • Submit the observation request to OFP
  • After you select where you would like to observe,
    you will then need to email a request to
    ofp_at_csu.edu
  • You should provide the following information in
    the email for each school request.
  • Your name, Phone
  • Course,
  • Observation Site Name, Exact Date
  • Arrival Time, Departure Time
  • Area/Grade (optional)

Confirm Observation Appointments outside OFP
  • Confirm observation appointments on the bulletin
    board outside OFP and/or online
  • Once you have submitted your request, you can
    confirm the appointment by viewing your name on
    the bulletin board outside of the Office of Field
    Placement and/or online after the following
    dates
  • Period 1 Tuesday, October 2nd
  • Period 2 Wednesday, October 31st
  • Period 3 Tuesday, November 29th
  • Do Not Call the Office of Field
    Placement to confirm your appointment!!
  • Confirmed appointments will be posted on the
    bulletin board outside the Office of Field
    Placement, ED322 and online - You must confirm
    your appointment before the actual appointment
    date.
  • Once the appointment has been confirmed, if you
    need to cancel the appointment, you must call the
    school directly to cancel. (see school list for
    telephone numbers).

Appointment Day
  • When traveling to the school appointment, make
    sure you have the contact persons name, school
    name, address and phone number.
  • You should arrive at the school 10 -15 minutes
    before your scheduled appointment.
  • Once you arrive at the school, go to the main
    office and ask for the contact person. They will
    direct you to your assigned classroom.
  • Your professor will provide specific detailed
    instructions on what information you should
    obtain during your observation experience.
  • BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU TO YOUR
    OBSERVATION APPOINTMENTS
  •  
  • 1.    CSU ID AND/OR STATE ID
  • 2.    LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
  • 3.    FIELD EXPERIENCE FORM
  • 4.    TB TEST
  • Upon completing all of your field experience
    hours, you will return the forms to your
    professor. He/she will sign as the Campus-Based
    Supervisor. When your professor signs the forms,
    you will receive the goldenrod copy. Your
    professor will submit the white copy to OFP.
  • KEEP COPIES OF ALL FIELD HOUR FORMS. Paper is
    easily misplaced or lost.

Making appointments with a school not on the list
  • You can make an appointment with a school not on
    the Observation Site List, if it is an accredited
    Illinois school and approved by your professor.
  • You must obtain approval from your professor to
    observe at a school not on the list.
  • Once you are approved, contact the perspective
    school to make arrangements with the
    principal/administrator.
  • Remember to bring your Field Experience Form, ID,
    TB test and Letter of Introduction.
  • Make sure you have an administrator at the school
    sign your Field Experience Form.
  • Upon completing all of your field experience
    hours, you should return the form to your
    professor. He/she will sign as Campus-Based
    Supervisor. When your professor signs the form,
    you will receive the goldenrod copy.
  • Note If you choose to observe at a school
    that is not on the list, you do not have to
    submit an email request to the Office of Field
    Placement.

Disposition/Professionalism
  • Completing field experience/observation hours
    marks a significant step toward becoming a
    professional educator. You, therefore, are
    expected to demonstrate the attitudes and actions
    of a professional educator. These include
  • extending basic rules of courtesy to teachers,
    pupils, school staff, and the school staff
  • meeting the standard professional dress code,
    personal appearance, professional behavior and
  • demonstrating professional ethics (refrain from
    engaging in negative conversations with or about
    staff, pupils, principal and/or parents).

  • Q Can I schedule my own appointment with
    schools on the list?
  • A No, you have to make appointments with the
    schools through OFP.
  • Q Can I call OFP to confirm my appointment?
  • A No, you must confirm your appointment outside
    of OFP (Ed-322)
  • Q Can I make an appointment before I get my TB
    test?
  • A Yes, but you must have your TB test before
    the date of the appointment.
  • Q Do I have to complete all of my observations
    in one period?
  • A No, you can complete an appointment in any of
    the periods. But you should consult with your
    professor to
