Liberia has been under civil war and regime
change for most of its history. On April 12,
1980 a successful military coup dethroned
President William R. Tolbert who was president
for nine years. Samuel Kanyon Doe became the new
dictator of Liberia.
Another civil war started again in 1989 Yromie
Johnson successfully over through Dictator Doe in
late 1990. Amos Sawyer became the leader after
the rebellion but he was forced to resign in 1994
and power was given to the Council of state. In
1997 Taylor was elected President. In 1999
because of Taylors dictatorship another Civil
war stared in 2003 Taylor accepted the asylum
offer from Nigeria.

Until the 1989 civil war the United States has
had very good relations With Liberia, because of
Liberias problems with human rights
and Government problems. Relations have become
tight.
In the 1980s the united states started a huge
relief plan called PL-480. They donated hundreds
of millions of dollars along with hundreds of
tons Rice. The United States is giving more to
Liberia then any other country.

UNMIL is the United Nations Mission In Liberia.
Is to support the implementation of the
ceasefire agreement and the peace process
protect United Nations staff, facilities and
civilians support humanitarian and human rights
activities as well as assist in national
security reform, including national police
training and formation of a new, restructured
military.
After Taylor left power in 2003 the United
Nations in all of its wisdom decided hey Maybe
all of these civil wars means that Liberia is not
stable and we should go on A peace keeping
mission in Liberia (they are so smart)
In 2003 the UNMIL was established with resolution
1509 they have been theresince Then it has not
improved a lot the food that is supposed to get
to the people is still Taken by the warlords and
another war is inevitable
