  • Rules Review Session

Basic Rules
  • Regulation team consists of 5 players
  • Team may start with minimum of 3 players
  • Goalkeepers must wear a different colored shirt
    than either team
  • No open toed/heeled shoes, no cleats (including
    turf shoes)
  • All jewelry is prohibited, even under tape

Game Timing
  • Two 20 minute halves with running clock
  • 3 minute halftime
  • Clock will stop for injuries
  • No timeouts
  • Teams switch sides at half, alternate kickoff
  • Any blown whistle stops play dead ball
  • Mercy Rule Team winning by 5 goals at anytime in
    final 2 minutes of game game over
  • Shootout will occur if tied at end of regulation

Game Basics
  • 2 Officials per game
  • Kickoff must wait for officials whistle
  • Kickoff not required to roll forward
  • Player who first kicked ball may not touch ball
    until another player touches it
  • Violation retake kickoff
  • Goal may be scored from kickoff
  • No offsides

Out of Bounds
  • Out of bounds
  • Above concrete wall on three sides of court
  • Ceiling and basketball backboards
  • Blue curtain and net
  • Out of playing area
  • Out of bounds results in indirect kick from
    nearest point where ball went out
  • Goal kick Offensive team hits ball out above
    opposing teams goal
  • Goal kick will be from anywhere inside goal box
  • Corner kick Defensive team hits ball out above
    own goal
  • Corner kick will be from within 2 yards of the
    corner of the court

The Court

Goalkeepers
  • Goal box 16ft wide x 14ft deep-marked by white
    tape
  • Goalkeeper must have some part of his body
    touching inside the goal box to handle ball
  • No punting or drop-kicks
  • Any pass thrown by goalie must be touched by
    another player before it crosses mid-court
  • Penalty indirect kick from mid-court
  • Goalie may not handle ball if it has been
    intentionally kicked to him by a teammate

Substitutions
  • Substitutions are on the fly
  • Players may be changed at any time from the
    substitution area
  • Players leaving the court must be within 5 feet
    of the substitution area and not involved in play
    before change is made
  • Can also occur during dead ball
  • If, during substitution, either player
    deliberately plays the ball while leaving player
    still on court Too Many Players Indirect
    Kick
  • If, during substitution, either player
    accidentally hit with ball, play continues

Free Kicks
  • Direct Kick A goal may be scored against the
    offending team off the initial kick
  • Indirect Kick A goal may not be scored unless
    the ball is played by another player from either
    team
  • Procedure
  • Opposition players must be at least 5 yards from
    the ball until it is kicked
  • Any player of offended team may take a free kick
  • Penalty Kick a penalty kick is awarded for a
    direct kick offense from the defending team that
    occurs within the penalty area

Restarts
  • After a penalty or dead ball, a restart will
    occur with a free kick or drop ball
  • The ball must be completely stopped before being
    kicked and be from the spot of the foul
  • The offended team need not wait for the official
    to blow the whistle to put the ball back in play,
    unless
  • The team has asked the official to walk off the 5
    yards or move any opposing players away
  • There is uncertainty between the teams over the
    call and a clarification is necessary

Fouls and Misconduct
  • Direct Kick Fouls
  • Slide Tackles (not allowed!)
  • Kicking, striking, tripping
  • Intentional handling, carrying, striking or
    propelling ball with a hand or arm
  • Intentional Charging
  • Not shoulder-to-shoulder contact or use of arms
    and elbows
  • Excessive contact on boards
  • Charging the goalie
  • Player may be ejected if intentional and
    malicious
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct

  • Indirect Kick Fouls
  • Dangerous Play
  • Playing the ball while on the floor
  • High kicks, etc.
  • Obstruction
  • Too Many Players
  • Goalkeeper throw crosses mid-court
  • Out-of-bounds

Misconduct
  • Misconduct and Ejections
  • Player intentionally charging an opponent into a
    wall shall be ejected without question
  • Yellow card persistent infringement or the
    rules, acting in an unsportsmanlike manner,
    objecting by word or action to decisions of
    official
  • Red card persistent misconduct, second yellow
    card, violent conduct, violent/abusive language
  • Result Ejection
  • A player may receive a red card if (s)he shows
    dissent by words or actions without having been
    warned
  • An intentional handball that prevents a goal from
    being scored will result in an automatic ejection

Goals
  • Goals are only about 6 inches off the wall with
    netting hanging down
  • In order for a goal to count, it must contact the
    wall
  • Goals can be scored from certain restarts
  • Direct free kicks
  • Kick off
  • Drop ball

Shootouts
  • 4 players from each team will shoot
  • Shooters need not have been on field
  • Goalkeepers will be same that were on field at
    end of regulation
  • Teams get 4 penalty kicks, alternate shots
  • Ball starts at center court--offensive player has
    5 seconds to shoot starting when official starts
    play
  • Goalkeeper must start on line and may not move
    until ball touched
  • Goalkeeper can use hands anywhere on the court

Shootouts Cont
  • A foul by the goalkeeper during shootout results
    in automatic goal
  • Foul by the shooter will negate any goal scored
  • No rebounds
  • Only one shootout during regular season
  • During playoffs, if score tied after one
    shootout, go to sudden death
  • Co-Rec teams must alternate on shots between
    male and female shooters

Sudden Death
  • If shootout tied after first 4 penalty kicks
  • Teams will continue to shoot, alternating
    shooters
  • Shooters from first round may participate in
    sudden death but may not shoot a second time in
    sudden death until everyone else has shot
  • Game is won, if after any equal number of shots,
    the tie is broken
