How the hearing benefit
  • Most people think that Mount Sinai is just a
hospital for the deaf but, what they dont know
is that anyone hearing or deaf can still go for
any medical needs that have a problem with.

Obstacles
  • A main obstacle for Mount Sinai is their
    misinterpretation of the patients diagnosis.
  • As many as 50,000 deaf and hard-of-hearing people
live in the metropolitan Chicago area, so Sinais
biggest obstacle is their Deaf Access Program.

Deaf Access
  • Mount Sinais doctors are trained to be a fluent
signer for any deaf patients they may have.
  • Sinai has made a phenomenal commitment to the
Deaf Access Program. The entire system supports
devotion to patients and to making the program
    work for them.
  • Sinai's Deaf Access Program is one of very few
programs nationwide that fully meet the needs of
deaf and hard-of-hearing adults and children. The
Deaf Access Program offers a broad range of
medical, mental health, and support services to
    deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
  • Sinai makes every effort to accommodate deaf and
    hard-of-hearing patients and their families.
Public TTYs are located in Mount Sinai's
emergency department and lobby. All televisions
are equipped with closed captioning. Portable
TTYs, telephone amplifiers, and other assistive
listening devices are available on request.
