  proposals. Adopt most recent edition of the
  international codes to ensure consistency with
  other states to improve safety and save energy in
  buildings

• Analysis
• In 2007, there were 50 fire related deaths in
  Washington state (7.8 per million residents).
  This was a decrease from 2006 when there were 64
  fire related deaths. Washington state ranked
  18th nationally for lowest number of fire related
  deaths in 2007.
• In the first quarter of FY 2009, there were 10
  fire related deaths in Washington state. (1.4
  per million in Q5)
• The SBCC is conducting a study of residential
  fire sprinkler systems. About 80 percent of fire
  deaths occur in residential buildings.
• The 2009 Model Residential Code contains a
  requirement for all new single family homes to be
  equipped with automatic fire sprinkler systems.
• In 2008, there were 45 fire related deaths in
  Washington state (6.3 per million residents)
• The report for January through March 2009 shows
  21 fire related deaths, exceeding the target for
  this quarter.
• The State Fire Marshal is investigating reasons
  for increases in Q7 of FY 09.
