Analyze Learners
  • The unit plan is centered for third grade, ages
    nine and ten.
  • Children will already have to know how to print
    letters and words legibly.
  • Children should have had some previous experience
    with graphic organizers.

Utilize Media Materials
  • Day 1 Comprehension
  • Read Cinderella to the class and ask a series of
    questions about the story.
  • Give them the second version of Cinderella to
    read on their own.
  • After they read the story ask questions on the
    differences of the two Cinderella stories.

  • Day 2 Compare and Contrast
  • Define to the class what it means to compare and
    contrast.
  • Make a list, as a class, of things that compare
    and contrast from the two Cinderella stories.
  • Students will then write some compare and
    contrasting things on their own.
  • Then ask the class get a partner and compare and
    contrast each other.

  • Day 3 Graphic Organizers
  • Show the class an example of a graphic organizer
    and the different types.
  • Do a sample organizer together as a class.
  • Have the class do a compare and contrasting
    organizer with the list from Cinderella.

  • Day 4 Literary Passages
  • Give the class a list of literary passages that
    defines what they are.
  • Go over them as a class and give examples of each
    literary passage.
  • Have the class identify books in the room with
    the correct literary passage.
  • The class will then complete a worksheet of
    literary passages and examples.

  • Day 5 Writing a correct paragraph
  • Read an example paragraph to the class.
  • Describe to the class what the beginning, middle,
    and ending sentences are.
  • Write an example paragraph as a class.
  • The class will then write their own paragraph
    with their own ideas of a modern day Cinderella.
  • The class will then put all of the paragraphs
    together to create a modern day Cinderella story.

  • As always a teacher should be very enthusiastic!
  • To help keep the class focused and on task I will
    give them goals to strive for.
