FBLA Advisor Teresa Giles and HOSA Advisor
Margaret Boils worked with their students to
raise money so that each resident in the center
would receive a brightly wrapped food basket and
everyone joined in to sing Christmas carols.
For the elderly and medically challenged people
in our community who dont have anyone else, this
activity provides them with a day of
socialization with young folks, says Boils.
Its important for our students to see people in
this type of environment because they can make a
difference and feel good about what they have
done. It gives the students an
opportunity to see how they impact others in a
time when older community members are sometimes
forgotten, says Giles. The look on the faces
of the residents was worth the entire effort.
Ill never forget the smiles, hugs and overall
appreciation of each of the residents because of
the generosity of our students. Its something
to be treasured. Im proud to have
instructors in our facility who care about their
students and the community in which they live
that they would devote this extra time to provide
such a rewarding experience for both students and
residents, says Clinton Co. ATC Principal
Alfredda Stearns. This event gives our students
an opportunity to show the citizens of our county
that our young people care for them and want to
invest their time and talents into brightening
their day. Like so many instructors across
the KY Tech school system, both teachers embraced
the project in their community. In unison, they
have created an opportunity for their students to
better understand the true meaning and joy of
giving to celebrate the Christmas season. More
importantly, their students have learned how to
become positively involved in the lives of others
who are less fortunate. As so many know this
lays the foundation for showing compassion and
giving throughout the entire year.
