    management. Special focus on management of
    chronic pain.

    with a visiting professor/ Dr. T

  • Introduction to shadowing and volunteer
    opportunities at the North Chicago VA Hospice-
    Member of VA hospice team
  • Hospice VA North Chicago

  • -- Students will be required to shadow with one
    or more disciplines within the hospice team for
    two sessions. Once per two weeks designated for
    classes.

  • Alternative Medicine talk (CAM) - Regina Chen
    (from the college of Health Professions)
  • Viewing of Wit and Discussion with visiting
    professor
  • Dr. Bubbers lecture on Geriatric Medicine (will
    be class mtg for one of the weeks)

Other Curriculum Changes In the first two years
  • First Year
  • Addition of end of life case studies to the
    ethics class
  • Addition of a patient presenter who has a
    terminal disease to the ICM presentation on
    patients with disabilities
  • The presentation is structured to bring up
    sensitive issues for physicians when dealing with
    patients who have special needs

  • Introduction to Clinical Medicine course
  • Communicating Bad News workshop
  • An interactive workshop for the students/ role
    playing
  • A lecture on End of Life Bedside Assessment
  • A look at common end of life physical symptoms

Recruitment
  • For the M1 class Introduction of both the death
    and dying group and the elective at the initial
    AMSA meeting during the first week of school.
  • For the M2 class Announcement in second year
    lecture hall

Changes for the Third Year
  • The option of doing a three week rotation with a
    palliative care team in place of the ambulatory
    care rotation.
