Being a Pioneer
  • Being a pioneer is about effecting change by
starting with self, about leading by example, and
about being the difference that makes a
    difference Yemi Adamoleku, Nigeria
  • To be a pioneer, you have to have the courage,
ambition and capabilities to bet on yourself and
your own vision, then implement it and pass on
this vision and confidence to others Patrick
    Ifonge, France
  • Being a pioneer is about inner change helping to
implement actions which improve the world we live
in. And its about counting on an international
network to support you, creating this critical
mass, which will allow the successful changes to
happen worldwide Patricia de Caires Sogayar,

Some scrap not deleted
14
Pioneers of ChangeUnderlying Beliefs of Founders
  • Life, in its essence, moves towards plurality,
    diversity, interdependence, self-constitution,
and self-organisation in short, towards the
    fulfillment of its own freedom
  • Through time, humans have built and reproduced
systems of production, types of society, frames
    of mind, that contradict life
  • While we are taught to work within such a system
(and the system learns to work within us), both
our intuition and our senses tell us that it is
fundamentally flawed, and that we can do
    something about it
  • We can change the rules of the game

15
Chaordic CommunitySome characteristics
  • Self-organisation promotes empowerment
  • In line with Pioneers commitment
  • Members should be given space and room to grow,
    change, experiment and learn
  • Members should have the right to self-organise at
any time, on any scale and around any activity
consistent with the Purpose and Principles
  • Self-selection a key operating principle
  • No-one part of Pioneers can compel another part
to do something it does not voluntarily
    self-select to do

16
What is Pioneers of Change?Background
  • The community has evolved as a common experience
of wanting to contribute to a purpose higher than
    self
  • Yet facing internal and external systemic
constraints in trying to do so, feeling pressured
to compromise our personal values and beliefs
  • Pioneers of Change is, to this end, first and
foremost a learning community through which we
can become better change agents, via
  • Observation inquiry
  • Retreat reflection and
  • Practice
