1
Empowered 2 ActLesson 3 Physical Emotional
Changes
  • Teens are in an exciting time of life. This
lesson encourages spiritual as well as physical
    and emotional growth.

2
The Importance of Physical Emotional Changes
  • What needs to be done to improve this car?

3
Goals
  • Acknowledge the physical changes that are
    being experienced.
  • Identify the importance of emotional maturity.
  • Address the various mental and physical
    responses to the opposite sex.
  • Learn to use these changes in ways that honor
    God.

4
Discussion
  • Give two reasons for the physical changes that
are part of the maturation process.

5
Discussion
  • Everyone in your age group is experiencing
physical change. These changes lead you into a
new stage and exciting of life. Yet, most teens
dont want to be too different in their
appearance. How can a Christian teen be
comfortable in his/her circle of friends and yet
stand out as a modest Christian?

6
Discussion
  • Many teens enjoy wearing the latest styles of
clothes, especially if those clothes accentuate
or enhance their physical appearance. What
guidelines should Christians use when selecting
clothes to wear? Is it possible to be in style
and at the same time reflect Christian values?

7
Discussion
  • At what point do people cross the line in
their appearance and go from being acceptably in
    style to sinfully provocative?

8
Discussion
  • As your bodies change and mature, your
emotions also change. You develop a curiosity
and desire for people of the opposite sex. How
do you respond to those who simplify these
changes by saying this is a time of raging
    hormones?

9
Discussion
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of
using attractive models to sell various products?
Is there a difference between a good-looking man
who is modeling clothes and a beautiful woman
    selling beer?

10
Discussion
  • Is it wrong to be happy with your physical
    development?

11
Agree-Disagree
  • Read each statement and discuss whether you
agree or disagree. Give reasonable and honest
    explanations for your answers.
  • A person can wear revealing clothes and still
glorify God if they save sex for marriage.
  • My parents tell me Im wearing clothes that are
inappropriate, but everyone wears the same stuff.
Im not doing anything wrong if it is the same
    as everyone else.
  • Guys cant help themselves. If a girl wears
clothes that show lots of skin, they get excited.

12
Agree-Disagreecontinued
  • Girls like it when guys look at them, but they
dont want guys to just think of them as sex
    objects.
  • Some churches require all females to wear long
dresses or skirts. That is a good application of
    Gods Word.
  • If a friend of mine starts wearing clothes that I
think are inappropriate, I have the
responsibility to tell them I dont approve.
  • People who dress modestly dont get many dating
    opportunities.
  • Teens who develop later are picked on by those
    who develop early.

13
Activity Compare the Mags
  • Note the differences in clothing styles between
the teen magazines and those meant for older
audiences. What images do they portray?

14
Activity Empowered Confrontations
  • Role-play a situation in which one person is
wearing something that is way too revealing and
the other person is confronting them about it.

15
Activity My Clothes
  • Go through your closet and evaluate your
clothes. Determine the image that each outfit
portrays. Your challenge is to get rid of any
clothes that dont help you reflect a sanctified
    life.

16
Activity Positive Peer Pressure
  • Peer pressure, whether positive or negative, is
real. Support each other in an active way.
Develop a positive support group that helps you
dress and act in a way that is consistent with
the discussions that you have had through E2A.

17
Activity Memory Verses
  • A person who doesnt acknowledge that his/her
body is a gift from God will not use his/her body
to glorify God while on a date. Select some
favorite Bible passages that remind you that your
body is a gift from God, and it should be used to
His glory. Read those passages regularly and
memorize them. Write them on pieces of paper and
put them in places where you will see them every
    day.
