Title: Animals From Desert and Forest Habitats

1
Animals From Desert and Forest Habitats
  • A science fact book created by Miss Vatnes third
    grade class.
  • Fall 2005

2
  • We have learned that a habitat is a place where
plants and animals live. In science, we studied
both desert habitats and forest habitats. Each
student has researched and prepared a page for
one specific animal from either the desert or the
    forest.

3
The ForestWritten by the students in Miss
Vatnes class.
  • Forests have lots of plants.
  • The forest can get 40 degrees below zero in the
    winter.
  • Forests have a lot of rain.
  • Forests have a lot of trees.
  • The forest has a lot of different animals
  • The forest has lakes, rivers, and streams.
  • The forest has four seasons summer, fall,
    winter, and spring.
  • The forest has a lot of leaves on the ground when
    it is Autumn.
  • When it is winter, the ponds freeze and the fish
and frogs go to the bottom.
  • In the winter, the forest is very cold.
  • When it is spring, the trees grow the leaves
    back.
  • They have Maple, Pine, and Oak trees in the
    Wisconsin forests.
  • Ferns grow in shady places in the forest.

4
The DesertWritten by the students in Miss
Vatnes Class
  • The desert has a lot of cactuses.
  • The deserts in the United States are very hot
during the day and cold at night.
  • Deserts are very dry.
  • The desert only gets 15 centimeters or less a
    year.
  • Some animals go underground so they can stay
    cool.
  • Deserts have no snow.
  • Each year it rains once in the desert. The next
    day, the water evaporates.
  • Many animals get water from eating bugs.
  • The desert has a lot of sand.
  • The desert is a habitat for a lot of animals.
  • When it rains in the desert, the Saguaro Cactus
sucks up all the rain with its long roots.
  • The stem of the Saguaro Cactus has a hard waxy
covering that keeps the plant from drying out.
  • In the desert, there are a lot of dead trees and
    plants.
